Department Overview:

The Director Retail Portfolio Management is responsible for providing independent risk oversight for a Retail Credit Portfolio as assigned, currently to be aligned to 1- Residential & Home Equity, 2- TDAF, and 3 - Credit Cards.

Manages team of Retail Credit Risk Analysts providing leadership direction, setting goals, evaluating results and ensuring goals are attained.

Provides in-depth insight and analysis to evaluate portfolio to maintain acceptable overall risk levels. Identifies risks and develops mitigation plans. Analyzes portfolio based on debt to income, loan to value, credit scores and a variety of other credit variables. .

Leads the communication of large retail loan portfolio behavior and asset quality with senior most leaders and to enterprise level committees, forums, and councils in US and Canada.

Primary contact with multiple Regulatory bodies in US and Canada for day to day inquires and is in-charge of administering all Retail Lending related exams including: organizing kickoff meetings, compiling documentation requests, fielding questions, leading exam responses and tracking MRAs, recommendations, and observations though final closure

Leads the development of underwriting policies and procedures to be implemented in the line of business, providing safeguards while allowing the Company to compete in the market; negotiates policy changes with business lines from a credit perspective and ensures acceptable product parameters, credit policies, investor requirements and credit processes are implemented and maintained. Coordinates closely with business line management to ensure products meet market needs and generate acceptable risk-adjusted returns and that credit processes are functioning effectively.

Resolves escalated issues and problems by conferring with senior management, staff in other internal departments, outside contacts and others as necessary.

Oversees the retail credit portfolio analysis in support of financial, regulatory and risk management requirements.

Participates in and supports several decision-making committees for the retail credit and portfolio management approaches.

Exercises independent judgment by displaying and reaching conclusions on the most complex portfolio issues as well as assumes accountability for high quality recommendations regarding the credit portfolio.

Job Description:

The position is accountable for credit policy guidance and approval for material changes and new products, monitoring and communicating credit quality with business leaders and Regulators both in the US and Canada. Will provide oversight of credit quality performance, and manage a team of credit specialists aligned to the portfolio. For Credit Cards, the role will coordinate closely with the corresponding Product Credit Risk Teams to ensure products meet market needs and generate acceptable risk-adjusted returns and that credit processes are functioning effectively, will provide independent oversight and approval of material underwriting policies and procedures, and will perform portfolio due diligence to evaluate risk for potential acquisitions. The role will lead the development of underwriting policies and procedures to be implemented in the line of business, negotiates policy changes with business lines from a credit perspective and ensures acceptable product parameters, credit policies and processes are implemented and maintained. The role will also perform portfolio due diligence to evaluate risk for potential acquisitions for the related portfolio.

Qualifications:

Graduate Degree or equivalent experience - 10+ Years of related experience

Full understanding of the unsecured business and associated risks including GSE programs and requirements

Solid experience and understanding of unsecured lending in Canadian and US Banking regulations, policies, and processes including CDN B20 requirements

Expert knowledge of portfolio analysis and reporting required with demonstrated ability to assess portfolio risk and develop effective recommendations for risk mitigation

Significant experience required in Credit Risk Management and credit policy development and approvals

Track record in managing multiple Audit and Regulatory issues to timely closure

Strong quantitative mathematical and statistical skills to determine sound, defensible approaches to forecasts and analyses

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to present complex information clearly and comprehensively.

Experience in change management related to the adoption of new business processes

Proven experience in organizing and presenting credit portfolio results and allowance requirements to Senior Management Committees, External Analysts, Auditors, Regulators, and Board of Directors
