Reporting to the Vice President, HR Wealth and Insurance, the VP, HR Insurance, works in close partnership with business leaders as well as enterprise HR groups to develop and execute strategies for the implementation of HR programs and initiatives that align to the business objectives.

This role assesses organizational needs/capabilities and develops strategies and programs to achieve business objectives and enhance organization effectiveness. He/she will lead talent management and acquisition initiatives to position the business to successfully meet, anticipate and execute on the current and future talent requirements.

As a key partner, the VP Human Resources’ responsibilities include liaising with Centers of Excellence on all aspects of HR including talent management, talent acquisition, compensation, performance management, resource and succession planning and ongoing advice and guidance on all people related matters. This role is a key member of the Human Resources Leadership Team, and along with the AVP and seven HRBPs who report into this role, will work with the business leaders across Canadian Business Banking to drive the people strategy.

Role Accountabilities

  • Develop and ensure execution of HR strategies aligned with enterprise-wide HR objectives, values and philosophy, and TD Bank Group’s business strategies / objectives

  • Work closely with the senior leadership team and act as a trusted advisor across all aspects of HR and people planning and management to ensure business objectives and plans are delivered

  • Partner across the broader enterprise and with HR colleagues to influence and implement programs, policies and practices

  • Support the attraction, development and retention of talent. Partner closely with business leaders to ensure we have the right people, in the right place, at the right time and that diversity in the workplace is a high priority

  • Monitor appropriate HR measures to assess the effectiveness of HR strategies and ensure compliance with the organization’s policies and regulatory requirements

  • Anticipate the HR implications of business strategies and initiatives and advise & influence the leadership team accordingly

  • Enable effective talent planning to ensure high potential resources are identified for key positions and appropriate plans are developed and implemented to support succession plans

  • Anticipate and manage the concerns of multiple stakeholders and ensure all parts of the function are provided with high- quality advice and support for their HR needs

  • Participate on various internal / external committees and project teams as appropriate

  • Stay abreast of new developments in HR internally as well as external strategies and practices

Job Requirements

  • University degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations or Business Administration is an asset

  • 10-15 years of experience in Human Resource Management

  • Relevant work experience in Human Resources with a deep understanding across multiple disciplines

  • Proven leadership in large change programs and processes in partnership with the business, demonstrating the ability to act as a catalyst for change

  • History of successful client Relationship Management, particularly at the Executive level, and adept at interacting with diverse groups of colleagues

  • Proven ability to develop and execute on strategies and delivering superior short- and long-term results in alignment with overall business strategies

  • Strong ability to attract top talent, inspire and bring out the best in others through a demonstrated passion for the business and willingness to recognize and reward the contributions of others

  • Proven ability in developing and deploying a vision and aligning others to that vision

  • Be known for providing creative thought leadership while also listening to and engaging others to provide input in shaping the vision

  • Comfortable operating in a complex, globally, matrixed organization

  • Powerful communicator who engages colleagues, business partners, external stakeholders and employees

  • Confident presentation skills and strong interpersonal skills including high EQ and emotional maturity to facilitate working with senior management at all levels

  • Demonstrated relationship building skills with a superior ability to deliver results with a dedication to operational and service excellence using positive impact and influence

  • Negotiation and partnership skills to balance stakeholder input while remaining objective to reach the right outcome

  • Highly developed critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to travel periodically in Canada is required
