Specialized Finance Manager, Subsidiary Regulatory Reporting, TD Securities Inc.

Department Overview:

The TD Securities Inc. Regulatory Reporting Team is part of the broader Specialized Reporting and Solutions Management Team, and reports under the Chief Accountant's Department of TDBG.

Job Description:

The Manager, Capital Management and Business Changes, will act as a subject matter expert (SME) in broker dealer products and regulations (Canadian Investment Regulatory Org - CIRO regulations). Managing the daily, monthly and year end production of financial reports including capital estimates, monthly and annual financial statements, and senior executive decks including for the TDSI Board of directors. Ensuring timely and accurate completion of these items and in the implementation of business and regulatory changes.

Specific Accountabilities:

The primary accountabilities of the Manager include:

  • Prepare / Review monthly financial report (CIRO – MFR).

  • Prepare / Review quarterly TDSI board report.

  • Prepare / Review year-end regulatory schedules for the Form 1 (CIRO year-end filing).

  • Prepare / Review notes to the annual financial statements.

  • Liaise with external auditors in preparing Form 1.

  • Act as a department subject matter expert for broker dealer regulations (CIRO regulation), products and financial accounting filing).

  • Liaise with CIRO for advice, regulatory requirement rule clarification etc.

  • Lead capital management activities such as:

  • capital forecasting, setting capital targets, managing capital repatriations and injections.

  • analysis of capital impact of proposed transactions/projects.

  • Manage the implementation of business projects (such as launch of new products, new vendors, and new systems). This includes providing advice on downstream impacts on capital management, financial, regulatory accounting and reporting, processes, and controls.

  • Provide support to business partners and performing ad hoc analyses on a wide variety of issues that arise in the business.

  • Critically assessing the efficiency and effectiveness of all processes on an ongoing basis. Where necessary, redesigning processes to achieve maximum efficiency and control.

  • Ensure documentation of policies and procedures stays up to date and relevant.

  • Ensure team and self stays up to date on changes in regulatory and business environment.

  • Serve as a Regulatory SME to senior management and the team.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong proficiency in MS Office applications (particularly Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and ability to work with large amounts of data.

  • Ability to manage deadlines, multiple tasks, be flexible and adapt well to changing priorities and ad-hoc requests in an environment with tight deadlines.

  • Ability to lead projects.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Strong presentation and written communication skills to peers and senior management.

  • Ability to communicate complex issues in an understandable and concise manner.

  • Proactive self-starter with the ability to identify process issues and to resolve quickly and effectively as appropriate.

  • An excellent team player – be able to work with individuals from other areas to achieve objectives.

  • Ability to re-design and streamline critical processes to ensure control and accuracy, while operating with best possible efficiency.

  • High customer service orientation.

Specific Education and Accreditation requirements:

  • CPA with experience working in or auditing the brokerage industry.
