* Department Description:
TD Model Validation (MV) group is responsible for the independent validation and approval of analytical models used for risk, pricing, hedging, and capital evaluation for portfolio of financial products. This also includes validation of decision-making models.
* Job Description:
The successful candidate will be a member of the TBSM MV group covering both quantitative and qualitative models designed for TD Insurance. The position reports to Senior Manager, TBSM Model Validation group within MV. Detailed accountabilities include:
Validate TD Insurance capital / reserve models, TBSM and TD Finance net interest income projection models covering the entire TD Bank Group book.
Propose in-depth testing plan per the Enterprise Model Validation Procedure and high-quality issue log to ensure the validation project going smoothly and the critical findings / issues identified are communicated with 1st line effectively and timely.
Evaluate the conceptual soundness of the model methodology through literature review and assessment of the reasonability of the assumptions to be consistent the nature of the business to ensure the model methodology aligning with industry best practice.
Assess the data quality and input control / governance process to ensure the acceptance of the model inputs.
Conduct validation testing following the validation testing plan accurately to assess the model performance, including but not limited to back-testing, sensitivity testing, stability testing, and independent benchmark model analysis. Proper archive the testing results subject for future audit and / or regulatory review.
Draft high-quality model validation report to decently summarize the validation review analysis and conclusion to support regulatory submission and potential audit questions. Validation report includes assessment of the model methodology, input quality, assumption reasonability, model performance testing results and model governance / control process.
Maintain/develop professional knowledge of techniques and developments in the field of quantitative analysis and share knowledge with business partners and senior management.
Become a domain expert to provide structural feedback to the business / 1st line to different stakeholders to achieve in time validation work.
The position involves working effectively with different internal partners such as TD Insurance (including TD General Insurance, TD Life Insurance, TD Reinsurance Barbados, and TD Insurance Risk Management), Treasury and Balance Sheet Management, Finance and Internal Audit.
* Job Requirements:
Solid quantitative skills with an advanced degree in actuarial science or finance. Actuarial + Finance combination background preferred.
1–3 year insurance-related experience in Bank / Insurance Company / Pension Plan / Consulting Firm. Outstanding new graduate exempted.
Solid understanding / knowledge on Financial Statements, Corporate Finance, Insurance (Reserving and Capital) and Financial Risk Management. Familiarity with regulatory requirements (i.e., IFRS17, IRRBB). Knowledge and experience with insurance products is an asset.
In process of pursuing FSA designation with complete of some Actuarial Exams is an asset.
In process of pursuing CFA / FRM / CMA is an asset.
Experience in insurance modeling preferred. Experience on AXIS is an asset.
Strong technical knowledge and experience with programming / coding.
Strong writing skills, especially technical writing, as well as excellent verbal communication skills are must-have.
Inquisitive nature, ability to ask the right questions and escalate issues. Risk & Control mindset with good business acumen is an asset.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. High attention to details.
Good time management and multitasking skills with minimal supervision..
