Job Description:
TD Asset Management (TDAM), a member of TD Bank Financial Group, is a leading North American investment manager offering progressive investment solutions to both institutional and individual investors. For over two decades, the organization has established competitive market positions in active, quantitative, and passive portfolio management. As of September 30, 2024, TDAM and its affiliates manage over $452 billion in assets on behalf of pension, insurance, endowment/foundation, and corporate clients, as well as high-net worth clients and retail mutual funds.
In attaining this client commitment, TDAM has built one of Canada’s largest and most respected investment management and research teams with more than 220 Portfolio Managers, Associate Portfolio Managers, Traders and Analysts.
As part of our continued expansion into the alternatives space, we are looking to recruit an Investment Associate to join the rapidly growing Commodities business. TDAM has been involved in the alternatives space for over 30 years and currently has teams focused on Real Estate, Infrastructure, and Private Credit. TDAM Commodities is responsible for building and delivering commodity solutions to both institutional and retail clients, with several funds under management. The team will also work closely as SMEs with colleagues across the broader firm.
Job Description:
As a member of the team, the Associate will work closely with colleagues to generate, research, and implement alpha-generating investment ideas across the commodity space. The individual will conduct fundamental research lending to differentiated insights and ideas and will be expected to leverage their work to add value. The selected individual will have the opportunity to directly work with senior portfolio managers and have an impact on investment decisions. The individual will also play a critical role in the development of analytical tools and market data. The individual may be involved in client-facing portfolio updates and investment strategy discussions. The individual should be enthusiastic about global markets and managing client-specific investment solutions, committed to investment excellence and enjoy working in a collaborative team environment.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and analyze commodity market trends, supply and demand factors, pricing movement and economic indicators
Use quantitative models to assess market dynamics and forecast commodity prices
Gather and process large datasets related to commodity prices, trade volumes, production reports etc
Create daily, weekly or monthly reports summarizing key trends, risks and opportunities in the commodity markets
Maintain databases and ensure the accuracy of historical data for market analysis
Assist senior PMs by providing real-time market insights, preparing reports and contributing strategy discussions
Prepare presentations and reports for senior management and clients, providing clear and concise insights into market trends
Collaborate with cross-functional team, including trading, operations, compliance, risk management etc
Skills and qualifications
Bachelor/master degree in financial economics, engineering or quantitative educational background
Working towards CFA designation is preferred
Strong programing skills, with experience in data analysis, modeling and statistical tools.
Proficiency in Python is required
Basic understanding of capital and commodity markets, supply chains and macroeconomic is preferred
Excellent attention to detail, high level of intellectual curiosity and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate solutions to complex problems
