We are seeking a Vice President, Data Platform Lead to join our Velocity Team at TD Securities.

At the Velocity team, we are dedicated to driving change with speed and precision, striving to revolutionize the way data is consumed and managed.

As a VP, Data Platform Lead you will be responsible for being an individual contributor on delivering capabilities offered by our cloud providers and develop capabilities where gaps exist. The role includes but not limited to build-out of a self-serve capability which helps users scaffold infrastructure and register data. In addition, the role will involve mentoring junior engineers on software practices and architecture.

What are we looking for:

  • Experience in operating and designing and operating a data platform from ingestion to consumption.

  • Ability to write scripts to contribute to a data mesh component.

  • Ability to craft a back-end that can test and self-serve capabilities offered by Azure.

  • Ability to research work arounds if needed to facilitate a data platform.

  • Design/Research/Implement required process components to enable TD Azure functionalities (i.e. Unity Catalog, Azure Purview ..)

  • Experience with 3rd party vendors is a plus (i.e. Dremio / Confluent Kafka)

  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to coordinate and liaison with multiple parties involved to align to strategic data platform and execution of needed components.

  • Ability to create Architectural diagrams with networking focus and system design.

  • Experience in PaaS offerings from Azure / GCP / Databricks

  • Must be able to lead complex projects and competing priorities with a high level of technical acumen and strong communication skills

  • You'll also analyze all platform level changes, monitor application impact, and provide appropriate technical solutions to resolve all issues quickly and efficiently

  • Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management

  • Achieves product commitments (and influences others to do the same) by using informal leadership & highly developed communication skills and contributes to or led technology communities

  • Uses automation, system tools, open-source solutions, observability and 'security first' principles in daily work

  • Contributes to team agile ceremonies, leads demos and presentations, helps new engineers learn established norms

  • Initiates high level solution design approaches, and guides team to achieve desired key software delivery capabilities using automated, coded enterprise and observability

  • Participates in internal speaking and advocacy events

  • Supports research activities to adopt new technology solutions in ways of developing new capabilities

Job Requirements:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Engineering or Technical Certificate.

  • Expert knowledge one or many of the follow (Java, Python, JavaScript)

  • Expert knowledge of PaaS offerings from Azure (i.e. Unity Catalog, Databrick suite)

  • 8+ years relevant experience.

  • Thought leadership and/or industry knowledge specific (but not limited to) your own area of expertise.

  • Willingness and strength in providing guidance and influencing multiple teams across a broad spectrum of initiatives and functional domains.

The Engineer II develops and maintains technical solutions that adhere to engineering and architectural design principles while meeting business requirements. Provides technical expertise with a focus on efficiency, reliability, scalability, and security; includes planning, evaluating, recommending, designing, operationalizing, and supporting solutions in compliance with enterprise and industry standards.

Depth & Scope:

  • Expert knowledge of specific domain or range of engineering frameworks, technology, tools, processes and procedures, as well as organization issues

  • Expert knowledge of TD applications, systems, networks, innovation, design activities, best practices, business / organization, Bank standards, and may fulfill a governance role

  • Expert knowledge and experience in own discipline; integrates knowledge of business and functional priorities

  • Acts as a key contributor in a complex and critical environment

  • May provide leadership to teams or projects; shares expertise

  • Applies in-depth skills and broad knowledge of the business to address complex problems and non-standard situations

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor or Graduate degree Strong academic background (e.g., computer science, engineering)

  • 7 + years relevant experience

  • Considers the impact of decisions on the well-being of TD, its Customers and stakeholders

  • Provides the highest level of Customer service when dealing with internal partners, vendors or our Customers - WOW at every opportunity
