•\tBachelor’s Degree minimum
•\t2-3 years of experience in analyzing sovereigns, Canadian provinces and/or supranational institutions on the buy-side, sell-side or at a rating agency is preferred
•\tStrong oral and written communication skills.
•\tExperience with writing analytical reports and making presentations
•\tGood understanding of basic macroeconomics, international finance, statistics and political risk
•\tStrong Bloomberg and Microsoft Office experience, especially with Excel.
We are seeking a Sovereign Credit Analyst to join TDAM's investment-grade credit research group. This is an associate-level position tailored for an analyst with some credit-risk and/or investment experience. This analyst will assume primary responsibility for a portfolio of high-grade sovereign credits—mainly advanced countries, Canadian provinces and leading supranational institutions—and will provide support to senior analysts and portfolio managers.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•\tContinuously monitor and assess economic and financial data, economic policies, and political developments to help maintain TDAM's sovereign credit ratings
•\tPerform in-depth analysis of a country's economic past performance and near/medium-term prospects, incorporating such considerations as: the economy's structure; fiscal and monetary policies and economic reforms; global economic and financial developments; and domestic and international political risks
•\tAssess the creditworthiness of Canadian provinces, focusing especially on their economic and fiscal risks and public-finance management
•\tMonitor TDAM covered multilateral lending institutions for recent and potential changes in their public policy role, membership support, financial strength, and quality of governance
•\tMaintain and utilize in-house and external statistical tools to help assesses changes in credit quality, ESG rankings and relative value opportunities
•\tPrepare clearly written and soundly reasoned research reports and present them to the Credit Committee and portfolio managers
•\tAssist senior analysts and senior management in collecting and reviewing data, conducting statistical analyses, and completing credit assessments across a broad range of advanced and emerging-market sovereign issuers
•\tMaintain relationships with the sell-side, rating agencies and sovereign issuers to keep current with sovereign credit developments and potential investment opportunities
•\tContribute to ad-hoc special projects
