Department Overview:

The SBA Loan Specialist I is responsible for assisting the SBA loan origination department in accordance with Bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, as well as the Standard Operating Procedures of the US Small Business Administration. The job requires the ability to train in loan closing requirements, with an interest in researching and applying the requirements of the SBA standards and credit policy.

4-year degree or equivalent experience preferred

Knowledge of commercial loan closing

Ability to build a working knowledge of SBA, federal and state regulations and UCC and banking regulations

Excellent documentation skills

Excellent knowledge of Banking Systems

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Strong PC skills including Word, Excel, Access and other Microsoft products

Job Description:

Provides support and assistance to the SBA Loan Closing Department by collecting transactional documentation, processing loan disbursements, uploading information to electronic systems of record, etc.

Responsible for obtaining the weekly departmental exception report, collecting the information necessary to clear the exceptions and follows through to resolution

Researches within SBA Standard Operating Procedures and credit policy and applies findings to various transactional situations, adhering to both SBA eligibility and bank policy

Reviews submitted documentation submitted to support lending transactions

Orders searches and other required due diligence, as needed

Serves as a SBA point of contact to support departments

Works toward independently processing loan disbursements, ensuring all documentation is policy-compliant and adheres to SBA guidelines

Assists in obtaining information needed for loan requirements checklist

Establishes and maintains relationships, as applicable, with Business Development Officers, Credit Management, operations teams and others, as needed

May act as liaison with Bank Counsel, Compliance Dept, CREA, and other various parties to the loans, as needed

May assist with collection of all required loan conditions (insurance, collateral, etc.), ensuring that they are sufficient and properly documented in compliance with Bank policy

Ensures deadlines are met

Assists with upload of complete and accurate loan documentation; may follow up for missing information; addresses any exceptions

Partners with Closing Specialist team to ensure that documents are uploaded so that transactions are funded and booked accurately and timely

Participates in special projects and performs duties, as required
